You Can Now Bookmark Date Range Reports in Google Search Analytics

date range search analyticsIf you have ever tried to bookmark reports in Google Search Analytics with a date range, you have probably discovered when you go back to that URL that instead of seeing the date range relative to the current date, such as “last 7 days”, the bookmarked link actually saved the date range based on the very specific dates you looked at previously, even if at the time you chose “last 7 days”.

But no more… Google has now changed their reporting to dynamic so that when you bookmark a link to a report for a relative date range such as last 7 or 30 days, Google will now show that based on the current date, not the date you created the bookmark.  This will save a ton of time for webmasters who can now bookmark these report URLs for quick access.

Zineb Ait Bahajji made the announcement yesterday on Google+.

You’ve asked for it, we’ve made it!

New in Search Analytics: URLs with Dynamic date range

How does it work?
If you save / share / copy the URL of a report that gives you the “last 7 days” of traffic on your website, it will now respect the real last 7 days every time you paste that URL or click on it, instead of remembering the date when you actually saved / shared / copied that URL.

ex: if I save a URL I created on January 25th, with a “last 7 days” view, and click on it today, it will give me a report on the last 7 days of traffic on my website, relative to today, rather than to January 25th.

This is great news for webmasters who want to save a ton of clicks for running the same report on a regular basis.
