Google Adds Disambiguation Box to Medical Knowledge Panels

google medical disambiguationMany people are familiar with the custom style of Google’s medical knowledge panels.  But Google has added something new – a disambiguation box.

Disambiguation boxes appear for some Google search results where Google isn’t sure which meaning of a popular keyword the searcher intends to look for, such as Apple the company or apple the fruit.  Google now shows this for some medical searches where Google isn’t sure exactly which specific medical condition the searcher is looking for.

For example, when you do a search for diabetes, Google will show a very basic medical knowledge panel, but then includes a brief description of each of the most common types of diabetes.

Here is how it looks:

Clicking on any of them will then display a full medical knowledge panel for the specific type of diabetes clicked on.

Cardiovascular disease is another one that triggers a medical disambiguation box.

These new disambiguation boxes are showing up for all users who currently see the new style medical knowledge panels.
