Using New JavaScript Frameworks? Google’s Advice for Crawling

google javascript crawlingAt SEJ Summit on Wednesday, Maile Ohye from Google was asked about sites that are created using new JavaScript frameworks and progressive design elements… they can create fantastic looking websites, but when it comes from a search perspective, they can definitely cause crawling and ranking issues with not just Google but all search engines.

Ohye said it is best to always check in Google Search Console with the fetch and render tool to ensure that Google is able to both crawl and render the page properly.  She said that there are always new Javascript frameworks being released.

As many SEOs know, the fancy sites that web designers come up with don’t always mean they are also SEO or search engine friendly.  And there are often threads in the Google Webmaster Help forums from webmasters with these beautiful websites that Googlebot can’t process properly.

So prior to launching a website, especially one that uses a lot of scripts to render the page, always use Google’s fetch and render tool to ensure it is working – and being crawled – as intended.
