Google Play Now Showing When Apps Contain Ads

google play ads appGoogle has expanded a popular feature to show Android users when the app they are looking at contains in-app ads or not.  This follows the recent addition of the in-app purchases note that shows up on some Android apps that have in-app purchases available.

A user on Reddit spotted the addition to the apps in the Google Play Store.  He shared the screenshot:

This is great for users.  Many users get very annoyed when the app they use runs in-app ads, especially if it is a paid app.  So if someone is presented with multiple apps in a search, they might weigh in-app ads as a deciding factor in choosing an app to download.

Could this lead to a drop in installs for apps with ads?  It is definitely a possibility if it turns out that app searchers are heavily preferring apps without in-app advertising.  So it could also mean that some app developers chose to remove ads because of it.

It does appear to be in the midst of rolling out, so not everyone has it enabled on their Android device yet.

Google even lists that their own YouTube app contains ads too.  So they aren’t giving themselves a pass when it comes to the fact they have ads.

There doesn’t seem to be a way to filter out apps depending on whether they have in-app advertising or not.
